A couple of months ago I bought the Allen & Heath Xone K2 controller as addition to my mobile setup during travelling. I wanted a small and compact controller that would still be able to do the job.
Hey guys, I currently own a Faderfox LV2 but i want to upgrade to a big size midicontroller and after some searching and looking i finally decided to choose between the XONE K2 and Traktor's X1 MK2. I play deep/techhouse and use two turntables and a XONE 92. Needles to say but 4 tracks, sync etx is nothing for me. Now, i would like to know your opinion about choosing these one of the two.

At first I thought of mapping it for 4 decks as I usually work with a 4 deck setup on my DJM800 with Denon SC2000 controllers and a NI Maschine controller for the FX, but after looking into the Xone K2 documentation it meant I would need to work with the layering and I didn’t want to make the mapping to complex. After plenty of brainstorming, looking up reviews, checking other mappings and reading the Traktor Bible, I decided to go with a single layer mapping for 2 decks with all necessary transport, EQ and FX controls.
Basically the controller is divided into 2 sections by drawing a straight line down the middle, left side would be used for deck A and the right side for deck B.
This mapping offers the following control:
- Transport control for both deckso Load
o Play
o Cue
o Rewind (Rwd)
o Forward (Fwd)
o Sync
o Pitch control
![Xone Xone](/uploads/1/2/7/6/127610150/141104705.jpg)
- EQ control for both deckso Volume slider for each deck
o Treble, medium & bass rotary knob
o Treble, medium & bass kill knobs (LED activated when pushed)
o Gain control
o Cue A & Cue B for pre-listening of tracks on headphones
- FX control for both decks
o Dry/Wet control via slider
o FX Unit 1 (left side) & FX Unit 2 (right side) ON/OFF buttons
(LED activated when pushed)
o FX Unit 1 & FX Unit 2 rotary knobs for FX control
(after FX isactivated through push button)
- Main controlso Master volume rotary knobo Mixer volume rotary knob
o Headphones volume rotary knob
o Push button for Browser Toggle
o Rotary knob for scrolling through the browser
I have also included some LED feedback in the mapping which I thought would be handy on such a tight controller, following controls have been mapped:
- KILL buttons will turn RED when activated
- FX ON/OFF buttons will turn AMBER when activated
- Pitch control buttons are always light up GREEN
- Sync buttons will turn RED when activated
- Cue buttons for pre-listening will turn AMBER when activated
- Fwd buttons will turn AMBER when activated
On a regular mixer you would get feedback through the EQ lights so you could keep your mixing out of the RED zone, but on the Xone K2 you would have to look at the EQ lights within Traktor.
